See You Later, Alligator

I think the "media" is determined to ruin the housing market- all over again

In San Antonio, Texas we're 'blessed' with an excellent economy and a pretty darn-good real estate market too.  We're very grateful.

But we get calls almost daily from potential out-of-state buyers (and concerned relatives) wondering how we're surviving in the real estate cesspool every Realtor must be in.

They ask if the lenders are lending- they've heard they are not.

They ask if our homes here have 'hit bottom'--- they were never 'inflated', so there has not been a crisis here...

They saw it on the news that sales in _____________(fill in the blank) have never been worse (never in Texas)- and they assume Sara and I are:

gator

in a breadline

taking our calls on our cells while

getting our last meal served by the Red Cross.

They saw it on 'the news'.

Or they have an aunt, who has a friend who was a Realtor who starved to death and was eaten by alligators (once again, not here)...film at eleven.

Maybe it's time for them to unplug the TV?

Steve and Sara, maybe I'm just "in a mood", but your post reminds me of a saying we have in South Louisiana...

"When you are up to your elbows in alligators, it is difficult to remember that your objective was to drain the swamp."

Anyway, I so agree with the need to overcome the negative medai. Thanks

Hi Mary Kay-

We spend a lot of time draining the swamp here, too.  Is that what hose cute green things are?

I ask each client to never believe anything they hear from a media outlet... as they're goal is to create a fuel buzz fire to ensure the watcher returns for the latest and greatest dilemma... isn't this why soap operas are so successful.  Isn't it crazy how many people think just because it is happening in one state, it happens in another.

Hi Jennifer-

I love your comparison of these "news" programs to a soap opera.  Very apropos!

you can not always believe everything you hear on Television, to much politics corrupting the waves. Thanks for sharing the truth :)

All real estate is local! When will these people get it?

I agree with Philip. Real estate is local. You can not look at what is going on in one area and expect the same thing in another. I'm glad your market is doing well.

The News media tends to sensationalize the real estate market.  It often manipulates the statistics and uses over generalizations.

Thanks for the feature Philip!  And thanks to y'all for your votes and echoes of sentiments about "The news media".

Well, everyone has to make a living the best way they can- even "the media" and "the politicians"
