Wordless Wednesday - Texas State Flower is the Bluebonnet

Deep in the heart of Texas... OK, along almost every Hill Country highway in Texas; including those around wildflower-rich San Antonio, are the most beautiful blue wildflowers flowers that you will ever see.

Texas Bluebonnet in San Antonio

The Texas Bluebonnet is a type of lupen and grows rampant thorough-out much of the state in the Spring.  One Bluebonnet is so pretty, but often you will see a whole field of them, that pop of bright blue with white - against the green.

Steve took this photo today in the Hornbeck Preserve behind our home in San Antonio (we'll miss the views when it sells).  Maybe tomorrow, we'll find a full field of Bluebonnets for you!

Steve & Sara, As I was driving up to The Woodlands today I saw some wildflowers blooming.  There's a huge bluebonnet meadow not far from our house.  I guess I need to see if they are blooming.

It's that time of the year.  There will be lots of posts showing the flowers coming out.  Makes a change from the snow.

Nice photo...I lived in Austin back in the mid 80's and remember those very well. Have a great day!

The first time my husband took me to Texas (against my will, I might add), we landed in San Antonio and drove down to Kingsville, up to Houston, then to College Station, and back to San Antonio. I fell in love with San Antonio, but that drive from Houston to College Station in the Spring was one of the most beautiful drives. All of the freeways were full of bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes.

Steve & Sara,

Thanks for sharing this with us.  The bluebonnet is quite a pretty flower, and it's almost that time of the year when all the beautiful blossoms will adorn the gardens all over Texas.

My favorite bluebonnet hillsiders were right around Navasota and Hearne, about halfway between College Station and Houston.
