It's Butterfly Month in South Texas - San Antonio

Yellow ButterflyWe're not just all about Longhorn Steers & such...Texas is the #1 state for Butterflies!

Yep- Butterflies.  425 species of the 725 known in the US reside here- or pass through at least, during migration.  Yeah, some migrate from as far as the tropics at this time of year.  We actually haveMonarch Butterfly people flocking here to spot the cute little critters, and that's not too hard, since the butterflies seem to flock too!  This last week seems to have been the height of the season, with swarms all over the place.

Butterfly gardens are springing up all across the state, especially in San Antonio. With the right plantings (see your local Garden Center) even your home can become a butterfly magnet.  So now we have another season-

What's not to love about butterflies?  I find them amazingly beautiful.

Love your photo--I stood in the same spot January 2009--what an amazing adventure.

Steve and Sara,

The Monarchs from Canada migrate there on their way to Mexico too. (They're the ones with the little Maple Leafs on their wings).
