Don't Get Around Much Anymore

This is a letter to all of our friends.  It's about where we are in our everyday lives right now:  So often in life we feel that there will always be time to enjoy the people who are the most important to us: Those whose smiles and laughs we treasure although we are sometimes miles - and even, for some, continents away from those who are dearest to us.

Somehow, in our desire to live life fully  - and in the present, we can become a little complacent about difficulties that we know are coming.  Lives that are ending, those whose have just ended very unexpectedly.  A friend of mine recently told me, upon hearing of the death of my Aunt (the oldest living relative on my late father's side and a woman who I loved and admired very much; that these things happen in threes.

Although I have heard this many times, and I know that the friend didn't mean it in a negative way; that "concept" really gave me pause.

Even from where I sit today, with another family member close by and struggling with a terminal health issue, with the hum and intermittent expulsion of air from the pump of an oxygen apparatus, I can't bring myself to subscribe to such a negative, old wives-tale type theory.

Although one day, life will be different and more of the people who have meant so much to me will be gone from this life on Earth,

My memories of these wonderful people will live on.

The way that they lived will live on

As will the way that I live BECAUSE of them, live on.

One day, although I, myself, may not get around much anymore (for who really knows what tomorrow will bring), I will treasure the time that I spent with family today - as I will treasure receiving the message that a sweet couple that we know is expecting their first child - a little girl to be born on January 7, 2011.

Although, one day, we won't get around much anymore, we will have shared in the lives of some wonderful people and that is the most ordianary, yet extraordinary of blessings.

First, you get a couple of Sticks

Chronicling the continuing progress on a home built from the ground up.

After the Builder has completed setting the forms for the foundation, then completing the foundation infrastructure and the rough plumbing for water and sewer, they pour the slab.

We go from this:

Foundation Ready for Framing

To this:

Piles of framing panels

The framing panels (above) have been delivered,

Risers and Trusses

including the trusses for the roofing and the extensions (below), to the panels (to get the ceiling heights of 9 feet on the first floor). Soon those walls will start going up.

Keep watching for more of the progress and call us for assistance with getting your San Antonio dream home built!

Lazy Longhorn - Speechless Sunday

Lazy Longhorn in San Antonio

Ahh-

Another sunny Sunday in San Antonio and the living is easy for those with no social schedule (that we can imagine), no church-going, no errands and no Sunday dinner to prepare!

Just a day spent lazing with friends, enjoying the country air and snacking their way through the afternoon...

I know that there must be a Margarita somewhere (for those who indulge), or it wouldn't be San Antonio!

I hope that your day was rich with quiet company and beautiful scenery!

Made In The Shade - Friday Photo

Even on a hot August day here in San Antonio, Texas, it is always possible to find a quiet spot to cool off and enjoy a little spot of beautiful countryside. This little bit of serenity can be found right along a road on the Northwest side of town - about 5 minutes drive from Loop 1604.

Here's hoping that you can make time this weekend to get out and enjoy the great outdoors!

I Didn't Make My Bed This Morning

Although, my mother would have frowned on it, this morning I celebrated my day by not making the bed. I know, I'm too old to have such a teen-age moment, but

Our House is Under Contract - and that's pretty exciting

After 100 days on the MLS, our San Antonio, Texas home should close on September 1st.

What will we miss the most?  Probably the view of the Canyon!

View of the Canyon

(But the new house will have a 3-car garage, where Steve and I can stash all of our extra real estate stuff!).  I will not miss having the house quite so show-ready and making sure that EVERYTHING is hidden away and that the stairs are vacuumed!
